Fixing Issue of Windows® Not Booting Black Screen
What are the tips to fix the issue of Windows not booting black screen?
While you try to start your Windows Operating System, the computer might stop responding and display a black screen as soon as the power-on self test (POST) is completed. The black screen is displayed before the Windows XP logo appears on the screen. There are several reasons for the occurrence of this issue. When you have a CD, a DVD, or a floppy disk in your CD, DVD, or floppy drive and when you start the computer, you might sometimes get black screen. One of the main reasons for this issue is the corruption of some of the files. These files might not load during the boot sequence of the computer and you would get a black screen. Files like Master boot record Partition tables, Boot sector, NTLDR file are some of the ones which get corrupted. Then, you might not be able to boot.
Following are tips to avoid black screen issues and allow smooth booting:
- Create a Microsoft Windows boot disk
- Provide virus scanning software
- Provide a valid master boot record
Create a Microsoft Windows boot disk
In order to resolve the issue, you need to create a Microsoft Windows boot disk. If you are able to start the computer without errors, you can assume that the damage is limited to the master boot record (MBR), boot sector, or the NTLDR file. So, when the Windows starts running, you need to back up the important data. You need to verify the size of partitions on the boot drive using Disk Administrator. If you find any invalid partitions, you need to re-create those partitions and reformat the affected drives and then restore the data from the most recent backup tape. Even after this, if you are not able to start from Windows boot disk, you might have to reinstall Windows and restore from tape.
Provide virus scanning software
In order to prevent corruption and to confirm that the system is free from viruses, you need to run an updated virus scanning software. MS-DOS-based virus software is a very good option. Even this software is good for NTFS file system. MS-DOS-based virus programs are also able to run from an MS-DOS boot disk.
You need to make sure that you are using a valid master boot record (MBR). You can boot from a virus-free MS-DOS version 5.0 or the latest boot disk with FDISK on it. You need to run the command 'FDISK /MBR'. You always need to keep in mind that if your computer is infected with virus, using the FDISK /MBR might not help you in booting your computer. So, before using the 'FDISK /MBR' command, you need to be sure that your system is free from virus.
