Turn off Active Desktop in Windows XP
We can turn off the Active Desktop feature in Windows XP system easily. To turn off this feature, select the ‘Start’ menu and click on the ‘Control Panel’. Then open the ‘Display’ icon and click on the ‘Desktop’ tab. Then select ‘Customize Desktop’ button and a ‘Desktop Items’ window will open and click on ‘Web’ tab in the Desktop Item window. To disable Active desktop, uncheck all the checkboxes in this window.
Turn off Active Desktop in Windows 98/2000/ME
Active Desktop feature is also available in the earlier versions of Windows 98, Window 2000 etc. We can enable and disable Active Desktop feature in this Windows system using the same steps of Windows XP system but some simple changes. Open the ‘Control Panel’ from the ‘Start’ menu and click on the ‘Display’ icon. Then in the ‘Display Properties’ window, click on the ‘Web’ tab. To disable Active Desktop make sure that all the ‘Show Web content on my Active Desktop’ checkboxes is unchecked.
Another method to disable Active Desktop in a Windows system is from Windows registry. Select the ‘Start’ menu and click on the ‘Run’ box. Then type the command ‘regedit’ and click on ‘Ok’. Now a new window of ‘Registry Editor’ will be displayed and navigate to the following address ‘hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpoliciesexplorer’ and create a new DWORD and assign the name. If you want to disable the active desktop then give it a value of 0 and restart the system to make the changes in effect.
