Reasons behind greying out issue
The Windows firewall settings are installed so that you can protect yourself without spending additional money on a third-party firewall. The firewall will grey out in the security Windows and in your system tray if you have disabled your Windows firewall settings in your Windows Operating System. You can easily re-enable or 'turn on' the Windows firewall if it has greyed out and then you will be protected instantly after you have turned the Windows Firewall on again.
First click 'Start', then type 'firewall', and then click 'Windows Firewall' in Windows quick search. Then you have to click 'Turn Windows Firewall On or Off' and enter your administrative password when asked to do so; then click 'OK'. After this, click 'Turn on Windows Firewall' next to each network connection to which you want to apply the firewall and press 'OK' after each of them for confirmation. Then go for "Block all incoming connections, including those in the list of allowed programs" only if you desire to offer full protection to your PC. Close the window immediately when you are satisfied with your Windows Firewall settings.
Another alternative to the issue mentioned above is to check the Group Policy settings via gpedit.msc. For this, you have to expand Administrative Templates, then Network, and after that Network Connections to reach Windows Firewall and then you have to click on 'Standard Profile'. Now look at 'Windows Firewall: Protect all network connections' and ensure that it is set to 'Not Configured'. You have to then double-click these settings and check 'Not Configured'; then click on 'Apply' and 'Ok'. If it is already set to 'Not configured', you may go ahead and disable it and then reset it back to 'not configured' and check your firewall option later.
