Windows® IP Settings
Different ways of IP settings
IP address is actually Internet Protocol. In order to perform connection between computers through Internet or network, we should have to assign unique IP address to our system. TCP/IP deals with the language that our computer used to communicate with other systems. We can assign IP settings manually or can use DHCP servers which will automatically assign IP address. There are several advantages of using DHCP servers. If we are using DHCP servers then it will automatically assign IP address when our system is moved to another location. We can access the TCP/IP settings from the control panel. Right clicking the 'My Network Places' in the control panel will allow the user to access IP settings. Then we can make changes to the settings.
Some of the ways in which we can change the IP settings and tips to fix the commonly arising issue are given below:
- Changing your Internet IP
- Changing your home network IP
- Steps to resolve common issues
Changing your Internet IP
You can change your IP address of the Internet to provide security to the system. We can change the IP address of our Internet connection easily. The changing process depends on the connection you are using. If you are using modems for the internet connection the IP address change each time when you connect the Internet. ISP assigns different IP address for the system. So, if you want to change the IP address then disconnect and then again reconnect the system for new IP address. If you are using broadband connection then you can change the IP address with the help of your service provider.
Changing your home network IP
In order to change the IP settings of your home network go to the 'Start' menu and select 'My Network Places'. Right click on 'My Network Places' and select 'Local Area Connection'. Then select its properties by right clicking on 'LAN'. Now you can access IP settings by clicking the 'Properties' of Internet protocol and select 'Use the following IP addresses' and now you can change your IP address. In this section, you need to specify the subnet mask and the default gateway.
You can change the IP address manually by typing registry commands on the 'Run' tab. If you are using this method then perform it with a little care of attention because any simple mistake itself will lead to the system crash. While assigning new IP address, select default IP address for your system otherwise it will lead to IP address conflicts. If you are using cable or DSL modems then it will automatically change the IP settings if you reconnect the components.
