Network Settings in Windows®
What are the ways to set up wireless network settings on a Windows-based computer?
Wireless networking allows you to connect the computer to a wireless router. The only prerequisite of the wireless router is a wireless enabled laptop. Windows 7 supports wireless networking by installing the latest wireless updates. Setting up a wireless router is easy compared to the settings of a wired router. Right hand corner of Windows 7 desktop will show wireless networks if available. Double click on the network you want to access. If there is a username and password provided, you need to use it. If not, contact the network administrator. The major setting is to set up whether encrypted or normal network is to be used in the network. Install the appropriate drivers for the router first. Based on the make and model of the router, appropriate drivers need to be installed for the router.
The following must be done to avoid issues arising during the set-up process:
- Turn On wireless router
- Install Security software
- Avoid Loss of signals
Turn On wireless router
The router not detected or ‘no active network’ might be found in the computer. In this case, make sure that the router is turned ON. If the issue is not resolved, then the router might need to be reset. You need to press the Reset button in the router or switch it off and then turn it ON. This might help in detecting the router and in the proper functioning of the wireless router.
Install Security software
Various security software are available in the computer. The network is easily prone to various threats. If the network is designed to access the Internet, then the computers might be exposed to various threats. The security software like network shields, firewall etc. might be able to detect various problems in the network and block the Internet connection.
The loss of signals is a major issue in the wireless network. Make sure that the signals are transmitted fully to the other computers in the network. Place the router and adjust the settings so that other wireless devices are able to access the signals. You might need to place the wireless router in an open place and away from obstacles like concrete wall, metal casing etc.
