Get to know more about using safe mode to remove viruses from Windows XP.
Technically we can define the Safe mode as the diagnostic mode of a Windows XP computer. Safe mode is generally a particular mode present in an Operating System which can be used for troubleshooting purposes. The computer works with basic configuration during safe mode. Programs like display or graphics driver applications which consume much memory etc will not work on Safe mode. This feature helps to repair a particular running file in normal mode. Safe mode boot helps to troubleshoot any issues related to installation, drivers, applications etc. It can be accessed by tapping F8 key continuously during booting.
Here we are going to discuss about need of booting the computer in Windows XP Safe Mode and how Safe Mode does helps in removing malicious threats from computer:
- Need of safe mode
- Virus removal by Safe mode
- Manual virus removal
Need of safe mode
During normal mode Window loads a huge amount of data to the memory for processing. This might cause some software conflicts and memory overloads. Such cases the Operating System might not load properly or takes too much time to load. However in Safe mode the computer loads only basic files and settings which are necessary to run Windows. Peripheral devices cannot be used during safe mode. But Safe mode can be used to troubleshoot issues like unexpected shutdowns, virus issues, driver problems, peripheral device issues etc.
Virus removal by safe mode
If you suspect virus infection on your computer, you have to remove it as soon as possible. You can make use of safe mode for virus removal. If your Windows does not load properly in normal mode, or virus infected which cannot be removed at normal mode you can use safe mode to fix. For that, first reboot your computer and press F8 choose safe mode from the Windows mode menu. Find out the virus file or defective file from the files list. You can repair or delete the file without any problems.
Safe mode can also be manual virus removal. Some running malicious applications cannot be deleted while using normal mode. It might show the error messages like “File in use”, “Unable to delete” etc. In such cases reboot the computer and before Windows logo appears press F8 key. The computer will show boot menu. Choose safe mode or safe mode with networking from the menu. Then the Windows will only load necessary applications. At that time the malicious file might be in rest state. So you can delete it easily from your computer.
