Windows® Server® 2008 Backup
The technique to configure and schedule backup in Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2008 is one of the most advanced server Operating System. Windows Server 2008 is one of the 'most secure' server Operating Systems developed by Microsoft. The security features of Windows Server 2008 are built from the same code as Windows Vista. So, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista share the same architecture and functionality. Since the code base is common, it automatically comes with most of the technical, security, management and administrative features. Features that are new to Windows Vista are rewritten networking stack, improved image-based installation, deployment and recovery, improved diagnostics, monitoring, event logging and reporting tools, new security features such as BitLocker and ASLR, improved Windows Firewall with secure default configuration and the core kernel, memory and file system improvements. Processors and memory devices are modeled as Plug and Play devices to allow hot-plugging of these devices
The following are the techniques to configure and schedule backup in Windows Server 2008:
- Launch Task Scheduler
- Command being configured
- Verify your settings
Launch Task Scheduler
You can schedule your Windows Server Backup by creating the jobs manually from Task Scheduler. So, you need to launch Task Scheduler for the server you wish to back up. In the Actions pane, you need to hit on Create Task. After creating the task, Name the new task, and then configure it to run in order to find whether the account is logged on or not. On the Triggers tab, click on the 'New' button. The trigger for this task will be the schedule you want to run your backup.
Command being configured
When you click the 'New' button on the action tab, then the scheduled task might run wbadmin.exe. There are few command-line tools in order to manage Windows Server Backup. Select 'start backup' to let wbadmin.exe to start a backup. The 'backupTarget' is the volume to store the backup, 'include' are the volumes to include in the backup job. Like that, all the command lines are having their own functions.
After configuring, you need to verify the settings in order to check if you want to configure anything else for your environment. If nothing else is to done then hit 'OK'. Sometimes, you might be prompted for the password for the user account when you configured to run the scheduled task. The new scheduled backup job will get started in Task Scheduler. Task scheduler will also display the last runtime and result for the scheduled task.
