Suggest tips to remove unwanted taskbar icons.
The taskbar is a visually oriented device on the desktop that helps you to identify the applications that are currently active and running in your system. These taskbars are the graphical user interface (GUI) for a computer Operating System or application. Most of the taskbars in Windows Operating Systems provide icons for commonly used applications like system clock, antivirus software etc. In some systems, you are able to modify the contents, location, or appearance of the taskbar. The introduction of taskbar happened with Windows 95 and since then, it has been introduced in every version of Windows. Taskbar is situated at the bottom of the screen and contains the 'Start' button on the left side and the system tray on the right. The task bar also includes the current time on the far right side and it holds shortcuts to programs directly to the right of the 'Start' button. Most of the task bar includes shortcuts to open Windows. When you open a program or window, it is shown in the task bar.
Following are tips to remove unwanted taskbar icons:
- From Windows XP system
- From Windows Vista/Windows 7 system
- Things to be kept in mind
From Windows XP system
When you want to remove the taskbar from Windows XP, you need to go to the 'Start' menu in your system and hit 'Control Panel'. Click on the 'Add or Remove Programs' icon; from that, you need to find the "icon name" in the list of programs, select it, and click on the 'Remove' button to its right. Then you need to follow on-screen prompts to remove the application.
From Windows Vista/Windows 7 system
To remove the taskbar icon from the Windows Vista or Windows 7 system, first of all, from the 'Start' menu, you need to go to 'Control Panel' and click on 'Programs'. From there, you need to choose 'Programs and Features'; find the 'Icon name' there in the program list and click 'Uninstall'. After that, follow on-screen prompts to remove the application.
In Windows XP, you can also remove the task bar permanently by editing the registry. Before doing that, you need to have proper backup. If you attempt to remove the taskbar and face any issue, you can restore the registry using the backup file. The taskbar icons are actually programs that are currently running and therefore most often, you might not want to remove them. You can simply 'hide' them by right clicking on an empty space on the task bar and then clicking 'Properties.' You need to check the 'Auto-hide' box, press 'Apply', and then 'OK.' Your taskbar would now automatically hide itself unless your mouse comes over the original taskbar location.
