Methods for Cleaning Up Temp Folders in Windows®
What is a temporary folder in Windows? Which method can be used to clean up Temp folders in Windows?
As new programs and applications are installed and uninstalled in your system, a number of files could be included in the system. These files come into your system in between these processes that are performed. These files are referred to as temporary files or simply temp files. You would usually forget to remove these temporary files after the installation or uninstallation of these applications. With this, the computer performance starts to slow down as the system becomes filled with lots of fragmented files. These files are usually included in temporary folders which are located in the 'C drive' of the system. These files are usually hidden ones and you can view them by changing the settings of Windows. These temporary files could eat up much memory space in your system and you would not be able to install new applications in your system with this particular issue. You need to remove these files as soon as possible.

Use Disk Cleanup Wizard
In order to delete temporary folders in Windows, you need to select 'Start'. After selecting 'All Programs', you need to select 'Accessories'. There, you would see the 'System Tool' option. By selecting this option, you would get the option 'Disk Cleanup'. Then, you need to select the drive. It would measure the free space in the drive. From the 'Disk Cleanup' window, you need to select the check box for the Temporary files. Then press 'Ok'. This would help delete all the files and folders from the temporary folder.
Use 'Run' command
You could use 'Run' command to delete temporary folders from your system. To do this, you need to select the 'Start' button and then select 'Run'. In the Run textbox, you need to type %tem%. It would display the temporary folder for your system. After selecting all the files, (press 'CTRL + A') you need to press the 'Delete' button. To automatically delete all the files from Windows temporary directories, you need to create a batch file. This file contains the following command:

rd /s /q %systemroot%temp
This should run at the system log-in time. This command not only removes temporary directories but also recreates them as empty folders.
