Virtual memory too low
What causes low virtual memory? What can be done to fix those problems?
Virtual memory is a conceptual memory created between the physical memory RAM and the hard disk. Virtual memory is also known as swap file or page file. It is the temporary space created in the hard disk and is used when there is a short of RAM memory. That is when your RAM starts running very slow, then the system will utilizes this temporary space. RAM will send the application to the virtual memory and these applications are queued in the virtual memory according to the preference. We can also make changes in the virtual memory settings. If the virtual memory and physical RAM is not enough to perform operation on your computer then the system will display the error message "Virtual memory too low".
Different causes for the low virtual memory in your computer and different steps to fix those problems are explained below:
- Possible causes
- Set virtual memory to system managed size
- Increasing virtual memory limit
Virtual memory plays an important role in managing your system memory. If the limit set for the virtual memory usage is not enough, then it will display the warning message "Virtual memory too low". The main reason for this error is the insufficient physical RAM and virtual memory size. This happens when some fixed upper limit for the virtual memory has been set. We can get rid of this problem by increasing the physical memory on your computer or set the virtual memory to system managed size.
Set Virtual memory to system managed size
One of the resolution method to resolve the virtual memory low problem by setting the virtual memory to system managed size. Therefore Windows will set it to higher size automatically whenever it is needed. In order to set the virtual memory to system managed size, select ‘My computer’ and click on the ‘Properties’ by right clicking on it. Then select ‘Advanced’ tab and click on ‘Performance’ settings. Click on the ‘Change’ button for the virtual memory in the ‘Advanced’ tab. Then click on ‘System managed size’ and select ‘Ok’.
Another method to resolve the virtual memory low is by upgrading the RAM according to the requirements. We can prevent the warning message "Virtual memory low" by increasing the virtual memory limit. To increase the limit, right click on ‘My Computer’ icon and click on ‘Properties’. Then select the ‘Advanced’ tab and choose the ‘Settings’ button under ‘Performance’. Now a performance option window opens and click on the ‘advanced’ tab and click on ‘Change’ button of the virtual memory. Then click on ‘Double the RAM size’ and click on ‘Ok’. Restart the computer to make the changes in effect.
