After that select the ‘processes’ tab. Then search for the running processes setup.exe, isetup.exe, ikernel.exe, msiexec.exe, idriver.exe, IsUninst.exe, IsUninst.exe, Uninst.exe, and Uninst16.exe.
Fix error 1601 in Windows XP and 2000
To fix the error in Windows XP and 2000, click on the ‘Start’ button and open ‘Run’. Then type ‘msiexec /unreg’ in the command box and press the ‘enter’ key. After that run command again and type 'msiexec /unregister' with the quotation mark followed by the ‘Ok’ button. This will resolve the error 1601 and you can install the applications without any problem.
First click on the ‘Start’ button and select the ‘search’ option. Then type ‘%windir%system32msiexec /unregserver’ and press the ‘enter’ key. Then click on the ‘Start’ button again and type ‘%windir%system32msiexec /regserver’ in the search box and hit the ‘enter’ key. If it asks you to enter a password, enter the admin password. Finally, click the ‘allow’ option for finishing the process. This will solve the error and you can install any new application.
