In the normal case, you can’t install programs with your Windows Installer in the Safe mode as the Windows Installer doesn’t work on Safe Mode. In order to install any program when you are in Safe Mode, you first need to give in a specific command using msiexec in command prompt. For making Windows Installer to work in Safe Mode, you will need to create a registry entry for every type of Safe Mode you are login in to. To enable the Windows Installer in Safe Mode, you can open command prompt and type in the following: REG ADD"HKLMSYSTEM
CurrentControlSetControl SafeBootMinimalMSIServer"/VE/T REG_SZ /F/D"Service" after that you can start the Windows Installer service by typing net start msiserver. For the Safe Mode with Network, you need to type in REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEM
CurrentControlSetControlSafeBootNetwork MSIServer"/VE/T REG_SZ/F/D"Service" and then start the Windows Installer service by typing net start msiserver.
Installing in Safe Mode
You might at times have issues in installing a program in normal mode, in such cases, you can make use of Safe Mode. Enter in to Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key on start up then you can choose Safe Mode. You can either chose to enter the normal Safe Mode or the Safe Mode with Networking. After that you may try to install the program as in Normal Mode.
As in the case of installation in Safe Mode, un-installation is also not possible in the Safe Mode. You can first enable the Windows Installer from the command prompt and then you can launch the Windows Installer. Now you can make use of the Windows Installer to remove any program you want to. You may either remove the program from the ‘add or remove programs’ or you may delete all the files and folders of the program manually to remove the program completely.
